Vilnius to Riga to Tallinn by train

From the December timetable change the three railway companies have now co-ordinated their timetables for the journey across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, in both directions.

So while it is still two changes this is now integrated, removing the very tight (and unscheduled) connection at Riga and the long wait time between trains at Valga.

You are a wealth of knowledge, Stuart. Thanks! I think when/if I go back, I will probably use busses/trains.

I did enjoy my bus for the journey from Vilnius to Riga, with tourist stops along the way. And I met some interesting young travelers (a Ukrainian returning to Tallinn from a visit to her family in Kyiv and an Italian boy studying In Russia to be a translator) on the bus from Riga to Tallinn. Very interesting conversations.

While I'm glad I chose those transfers the first time, a train sounds convenient if I were to go back.

There has now been a further service improvement as of 10 February. The Vilnius to Riga train has been extended to and from Valga, and Lithuanian Railways have now introduced through ticketing from Vilnius to Tallinn.
So it is now one ticket (not three) and a two seat (not three seat) ride entirely on modern trains.
And a straight 15 minute change at Valga.
