Tallinn v Riga

I'm planning a 12 day Baltics trip in September. I've spent a couple days before in Riga, but never been to Tallinn or Vilnius.

Timing of flights gives me the choice of either 3/2 full days in Tallinn/Riga, or 2/3 full days in Tallinn/Riga, either of which followed by 2 full days in Vilnius.

Those who have been to both Tallinn and Riga, in which would you spend the most (3) days?

Since you've been to Riga before, I'd suggest 3 Tallinn and 2 Riga. Otherwise, for Art Nouveau architecture and a small art nouveau house museum, 3 days in Riga.

I'll vote for Riga. Of the three Baltic capitals, it's my favorite.

I head back there today.

You'll probably get a lot of votes for Tallinn because Rick suggests people go there but there is no mention of Riga.

But you won't go wrong either way.

Or you can do 2 days in Tallinn and 2 days in Riga and add a day in Tartu inbetween.

Since you've already spent a couple days in Riga, I have no problem assigning the third day to Tallinn. Tartu is very nice, I agree.

I've visited Tallinn twice, and Riga once--if I had a choice again, I'd return to Tallinn for the 3rd time. 3 days is good, the old town is very walkable and there's other sites--Kadriorg park and museums, the Balti Jaama Turg (market), the Vabamu Museum of Occupation and Freedom--within a 10 minute or so walk from old town, or a tram ride away. I never tired of exploring the old town, it's really quite magical. I thoroughly enjoyed Riga in 2.5 days, but not thinking a return is necessary.
