Hotel recommendation in tallin

Staying 3 nights in Tallin in very early September 2022. I like to use booking.com for hotels with great cancellation policies. Found two that im interested in, practically identical cost (Around $380 for 3 nights), Same review rating, and breakfast Is included, both city centre. CRU hotel Is on main street 328’ from town hall. No AC, good on-site restaurant, no lift (not important). Sounds interesting in that it is a 15th century house. Other hotel is Von Steckelberg, 2700’ from old town at the foot of Toompea Hill, a few steps from the castle and Nevsky cathedral. From something i think i remember reading a long time Ago, this one is just outside the city wall and the first hotel is within the city walls??? It has AC in rooms.

In terms of location, which would be the best, or are they about the same walking distance to attractions.? We will be walking and taking public transportation. We will arrive from St. Petersburg by train or bus. Or do you have something else in mind for about the same cost that is in good location for walking and Accessing sites? Thanks.

I stayed 3 wonderful nights at the Von Stackelberg in May 2019--beautiful hotel from a Baron's old residence, very spacious, quiet and comfortable beautifully decorated room with excellent breakfast and very helpful front desk staff. I enjoyed the short walk up a slight hill into Old Town, it passes a pretty park and there are other things to do nearby without going into Old Town--the Balti Jaama turg marketplace is off to the left at the old train station, and the museum of Occupation & Freedom is a couple of blocks away and very much worth a visit. I don't know where CRU is, the hotel I stayed at my first visit to Tallinn was the Boutique Savoy at the edge of old town and it was also lovely but could get noisy out front at night--the Von Stackelberg was a really excellent experience and I will stay there again.

Here's my trip report, you may find something useful in it, and I do hope you love Tallinn as much as I do.

If you are traveling to Estonia from outside the EU, I hope you are monitoring the entry regulations carefully. It's unclear to me whether being vaccinated makes a difference if you're arriving from a country with a daily average infection rate over the last 14 days above the cited 75-per-100,000 level. I'm nearly certain the US is currently under that level, but our average for the last 7 days is nearly 80 and the trend is upward. I think it's very unlikely the daily average over a two-week period will be under 75 per 100,000 by the time September rolls around.

I’m currently in Estonia- got here yesterday from Lithuania- only the airline Air Baltic checked the entry forms. There was no check on arrival in Tallinn. We hopped on a direct bus to Tartu. Will head to Tallinn tomorrow. I have booked the Savoy Boutique hotel

One thing to note - there is absolutely no masking anywhere here. In Lithuania there was some masking when you entered stores or restaurants but none so far in Estonia
