Disruptions to Public Transport in Tallinn

For anyone traveling to Tallinn 2023 and 2024 you can expect various interruptions and changes to tram and bus schedules.

There is a very large tram line project to link the harbor with the airport that has closed down many parts of the central city. This has affected the main city bus station (Viru Keskus) and the only tram line currently running is #6, thus there is no tram service to the airport but there are buses. If you are driving in Tallinn expect lots of detours and route changes every few days.. I have been using both Waze and Google Maps and both are pretty well updated. The work is supposed to be completed by the end of 2024 with various closures from now until then.

Here is a link to the Tallinn city website about the construction:

Happy travels!

Thank you for the information, Tom M. I will be in Tallinn in a week and appreciate the insights. And I'd heard from acraven about bus stops being repositioned to allow for the works.

I'll be arriving from Riga by bus. Do you know if regional buses are still arriving at the central bus station or have they diverted them?

When I left Tallinn, I was heading for Tartu rather than Riga, but I assume the story's the same for all long-distance buses. They're still using the bussijaam on Lastekodu, just off Tartu maantee.

Google Maps provided good walkung directions between my hotel and the bus station, taking into consideration the streets that were partially or totally blocked off.

Thanks, acraven. My hotel is about 2km from there, which I'm happy to walk but not with luggage, so I'll get a Bolt.

I'm looking forward to the cooler weather. Vilnius is unseasonably hot... for them.
