Zones 1&2 Oyster card with question for LHR destination

This may be super basic but I’m a planner and am not understanding how to get to LHR. I wish there were people at the stations to buy what is needed in person, rather than a machine that doesn’t answer my questions! Lol!

Can I add more money on my 7 day Oyster card for zones 1&2 to cover the trip to LHR, or do I have to purchase a paper ticket to cover it? Any idea of the amount? And since I will travel part of the way in the covered zones, will I purchase the additional fare in advance, or once it is needed when my entry is denied? I must plan for this since we decided to meet my daughter at the airport and need to be there on time.

I hope my question makes sense!

No paper tickets! That's so old school...LOL Top up your Oyster card before heading to Heathrow. Then when you tap out to exit it will calculate your fare. IDK what the Heathrow Express fare is. Oyster card probably works on that. Or instead of topping up your card you can use a contact less credit card instead of the Oyster card. Oyster cards don't expire plus you can get refunded on your way out of town. Less the card fee ($5?)

transport for London has a trip planner too. Bus is another option

To add to ramblin’s answer, your Oystercard can hold both a travelcard and pay as you go (PAYG) money. If you have a zone 1-2 card loaded along with the PAYG, when you travel from London to Heathrow the fare for travel between zone 2 and zone 6 will be deducted from your PAYG funds.
