Any recommendations for York walking tours? I’m looking for Viking and Roman York.
The Association of Voluntary Guides to the City of York does a terrific approx 2 hour tour. It's free and they don't take tips. There's a tour route on their website (avgyork.co.uk) and pre-booking is recommended. They say their tours are a maximum of 6 people but ours was bigger. If there's just one guide (apparently on the day we visited, we had about 20 in our group, but still manageable).
There is also this free walking tour that covers many of teh Roman and Viking sites in York (plus a lot more...)
Alternatively, there is this self guided audio tour...
Second vote for the Association of Voluntary guides. Our tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable. And it was free.
Another vote for the Association of Voluntary Guides tours. And if you're scared of heights, as I am, the walk on the wall is not bad or very high up.
My husband and I went on a YorkTour last September and it was excellent- even in the rain! Alfred is a passionate and extremely knowledgeable guide. I highly recommend this small family business. Prices are very reasonable.
Thanks everyone!! I have booked the free tour of the city and can’t wait!
