York to Robin Hood's Bay

Hello fellow travelers,

In late September, my friend and I will be in York. From there, we'd like to travel to Robin Hood's Bay for a couple of days. Then from Robin Hood's Bay to London.

I'm seeing recommendations for a train from York to Scarborough, then a taxi to Robin Hood's Bay. Then back to Scarborough for the train to London. If there is another transportation option that you know of and can recommend for either leg of the journey, I'd love to hear about it.

Since we'll be heading to Robin Hood's Bay on a Sunday, should we consider any variations in travel schedules that may be unique to the weekend?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can also take a train to Middlesbrough, then the Esk Valley railway to Whitby- the latter train runs every 3 hours, and is actually a slightly better service on a Sunday than on a weekday, with some trains running through from Darlington or Newcastle.

From Scarborough there is also the train down the coast to Hull- from whence Hull Trains (an open access operator) run direct services to London Kings Cross.
Most of their trains start in Beverley (north of Hull) so that would be a good excuse to also visit Beverley and it's Minster Church.

There is only one train an hour from York to Scarborough and it takes about an hour. From Scarborough I took the bus noted above ?X93 to Whitby - an hourly service and takes about an hour. The bus I got on stopped at Robin Hood's Bay. (Getting back to York, I was fortunate to get a lift - I was at the HF Holidays (a walking holiday cooperative) location in Whitby and many of the other walkers had come by car.

One of the walks I did, we went to Robin Hood's Bay and then along the coast - was terrific
