Can you recommend the best website and the ideal time to purchase tickets for the train from York to London? We'll be traveling on a Sunday in early May, looking for a reasonable fare. Is it best to select a seat?

You can use nationalrail.co.uk to get the tickets about 90 days in advance. They are on sale now through the end of March. I booked mine direct through Virgin East Trains for our trip last August at 26.50 pounds per passenger. You can get the same price at national rail.
