I'm looking into the Mountain Goat tours from York for this upcoming August. The two options are North Moors and Yorkshire Dales. Has anyone done either of those and know of any pros/cons to decide which to do?
Any chance you have time to do both?
In May of 2023, I took these tours from York:

I loved them both. If I had to pick just one, I would go with the Dales. I preferred the Grassington stop on that tour compared to the Whitby stop on the Moors tour. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. They were both fantastic. I loved the scenery with all the stone walls.
I did both of the tours back to back days in April 2025. I loved both! I also thought a lot of Mountain Goat Tours and have another scheduled soon in the Lake District.
The Yorkshire Dales I was on highlighted many of the All Creatures Great and Small venues - "Darrowby" (Grassington), "Helen's" farm, the wedding church. As well as these places being specifically pointed out, the tour included lots of general info on the gorgeous areas we were traveling through. Bolton Castle was also a nice long stop along with a stop for cheese at Wensleydale.
North York Moors and Whitby was similarly terrific. I hadn't done much research on Whitby - loved the time there. The North York Moors were very dramatic - I would be hard pressed to say which area I enjoyed more scenery-wise.
I found the pace of both tours equally amenable to my interests. I had time to explore everything I wanted to at each stop. The stops are not "guided" which is my preference. You are given time to explore on your own - village shops, cafes, museums, etc. For my needs, the "bus time" was well balanced with time to get out to enjoy views or longer stops.
I think you can't lose either way!
Thanks all!!! This is very helpful. Can only do one and think I'm going to go with Dales ;)
Good choice. I hope you’ll come back later and tell us what you thought of it.
