Nationwide train strike 24 Dec PLUS now, a full week in January

After the derisory offer of 4% the RMT are going out again, from the 24th to the 27th of December.

14 train companies plus the Network Rail across the country (who maintain and operate signals and track).

Strike is from 6pm on 24th of December so the already early finishing Christmas Eve services will be ending way earlier. I wouldn't rely on anything after noon, and probably earlier.

No trains anyway on Christmas Day.

No trains on Boxing Day.

Few if any on the 27th.

Sorry. It was looking so promising until they made that offer.

The already scheduled 48 hour strikes previously announced, and mentioned here, are still going ahead too.

UPDATE Dec 20th. The strikes are going ahead, and for the 48 hour strikes in January the ASLEF Drivers union are also going out on the 5th. So in Jan, so far, 3rd and 4th RMT, 5th ASLEF against 15 companies, 6th and 7th RMT again. A full week of severe disruption.

Nigel, I was reading a bit about this on the BBC site this morning:

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-63872789

It's an unfortunate thing for the citizens who depend on rail to get to their homes and/or families for the holiday. Not a very happy Christmas, eh? Shoot, it's unfortunate for even the citizens who don't necessarily celebrate the Christian holiday but must travel for work or any number of other reasons. Sounds like the hospitality industry is not happy either. :O(

No need to say Sorry, Nigel.
We are lucky to have you on the spot to give up to date information.

I’ve heard that your ambulance workers are going out too.☹️

not just ambulance.

We are not in a good place.

Hospital Nurses.

Buses.

Tube trains.

Trains

Post Office

Teachers.

University Professors.

Telephones and broadband

College (like grade 12 and 13 in Canada and US) lecturers and other staff

Rubbish collectors.

Those are just the main attention gathering strikes this month, there are many others.

But I just report the trains.

Thanks Nigel-

Talking to friends in UK and Europe, it looks like a rather bleak Christmas/winter for many. And for the UK more drivers on the road during the holidays due to the train strikes.

Hopefully 2023 will signal better days.

Looks like Dec 23 will be a frantically busy day as everyone is stocking up to make it to the 28th.

Merry (?) Christmas.

Nigel I feel for you, when I was in London last week toggling between BBC and Sky News and the Times, it's going to be a tough winter for everyone over there.

The papers print color-coded calendars of who's on strike and when, and it gets pretty messy because of all the overlap.

I think travelers should be aware of the border patrol equivalents who work the airports, even if they bring in the army as threatened/promised it will be a disaster.
