Would the area near Baker Street be a good place to stay?

We saw an apartment for rent and it is described as

New Apartment on the market close to BAKER STREET:

They also say

  • Baker Street (Jubilee line, Circle line, Metropolitan line, Bakerloo line and Hammersmith and City line), 15 minutes walk to the apartment;
  • Edgware Road (Bakerloo line, District lie and Hammersmith and City line), 10 minutes walk to the apartment.

Any advice on the area? We are my husband and I in our late 40's and my 72 year old mom. Any advice you have would be appreciated.

If it is a "New Apartment on the market" is that code for we don't have any reviews? If "new" it may mean that it doesn't exist - unfortunately these things do happen from time to time - or that it may have other issues.

Who is advertising it? Is it on a reputable site, and playing by the rules?

It is pretty hard to pin down the location from those two walking times - and it is my experience that walking times in adverts tend to be a bit optimistic. Can you share the ad, or where they claim the place to be? Have you looked at streetview to see what the neighborhood looks like?

Sorry to sound too down, but there have been a whole truckload of fake ads recently in London, or people illegally subletting council flats. I wouldn't want you getting involved with one of those.

There are, on the other hand, plenty of reputable ones, too, and many people do fine.

The close to yet pretty far (15 minutes can be up to a mile) was a red flag to me as well as the New.

Quite, those timings are absolutely useless for location. It is possibly somewhere in Marylebone, although for some reason they don't mention that station!

Agree with Nigel and Marco where exactly did you see this advertisement? Is this a HomeStay? AirBnb?
TripAdvisor property? What? Where?

Personally it sounds a bit dodgy.

It was on airbnb but now it is not available. I'm going crazy with this search.

I would quit searching on AirBnB since it is driving you nuts, plus you have been looking for a long time now.
look at The Citadines apartments. They are run like a hotel, in that they have a lobby and front desk where you check in.

You have many threads where you are talking about various apartments. What happened to the one in Lisson Grove (AirBnB) you found? That location sounds great.
You mentioned it on this thread, where you got a lot of good suggestions:

Can you give a link to the Lisson Grove apt. you found?
