The 'Beyond Europe' section would be most appropriate. The problem you'll find is that because this site is primarily used by Americans there isn't a section devoted solely to the US which would be the best place for your question. I've never heard of Friday Harbour so I had to Google it. I suspect that it's not somewhere that many contributors to this site will have been to so you may not receive much of a response.

The cable networks have been showing the soccer thing; just really odd hours here because of the time difference

It's not that different from NFL football schedule--just an hour earlier. It's 11 AM EDT, so you need to find a place serving breakfast with a TV as it will start at 8 AM. I think that the west coast is used to this. When I lived in CA briefly, getting used to before lunch football games was one of my adjustments!
