In October I will be flying out of Istanbul to the US via LHR connection. I am opting for a 24+ hour stopover to break up the travel. We’ll arrive LHR 1030 am and fly out at 1300 next day.
I’ve been wanting to visit Windsor but I know the castle itself is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and my visit will be arrive Tuesday morning and continue travel Wednesday afternoon.
I believe the town/village is worth seeing even with no castle visit. Can you still walk to the bridge that leads to Eton? What else would you suggest for a short but enjoyable 24 hours in Windsor? Thank You!!
Stroll through Windsor Great Park! And the town is very charming. I've heard there are interesting guided walking tours for the town itself.

On the Tuesday it will be about noon when you arrive in Windsor, and on the Wednesday morning you will need to leave no later than 9.30 am so you only really have the afternoon and evening of Tuesday. If it is late October it is going to be dark by around 6pm.
As one person has mentioned, you have less time than you think. :-)
That said, yes, you can still walk into Eton and it is just lovely! I recommend The Crown and Cushion pub if you fancy a pint (and it’s open - might be too early).
The Long Walk is also extremely pretty.
Just mooching about down by the river and feeding the swans is also delightful.
I am appreciating the replies! I do plan to book the Windsor overnight and, as it is a Stopover on the same ticket (from Istanbul to Philadelphia) BA will keep hold of the big checked in bags so we won’t have to deal with baggage on either end. We will have close to 24 hours to enjoy some of the walks, views, and visits (definitely 1-2 pubs/pints too)
I was in Windsor on a day when the castle was closed but I was surprised to see how busy it was! I enjoyed walking around Eton and the town of Windsor. I also enjoyed going to Runnymede, and then took the French Brothers boat to Windsor. Have fun!
