Windsor - easiest way to get from Bath to Windsor and best place to stay

Hello. After staying in Bath, we (family of 4) are planning to spend 1 night in Windsor before flying out the next day. (Tuesday night Bath, Wednesday night Windsor, Thursday 14:40 flight home). What would be the easiest way to get to Windsor? I see the train takes 1 hr 45 minutes with 2 stops.

Also, recommendations where to stay?

Thank you, Kelly

It is not two stops, you will change trains twice, but there will be other intermediate stops. You will need 3 trains:
1) Bath to Reading (intermediate stops: Chippenham and Swindon)
2) Reading to Slough
3) Slough to Windsor and Eton Central
As you say it will take approx. 1h45.

That is the easiest and obvious route.
You can buy tickets in advance (pick up at Bath station) at: https://www.gwr.com/
Cost £30.40 per person

I've booked the M-gallery (Sofitel). If you sign up with Accors hotels you'll get a discounted rate as a member including breakfast.

I stayed at 76 Duke St B & B last April and loved it. Julia, the host, is the best. She only has 2 rooms to rent out and will only rent out both rooms to the same party. Breakfast is included and you get the menu the night before and you can pick what you want. She also arranged for a taxi to Heathrow on your departure day. I found her via the RS book. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the train station.

This past June, I enjoyed staying one night at The George Inn, just over the pedestrian bridge on the Eton side of the river. Some of the rooms have a view of the castle. Perfectly comfortable, not fancy, with cooked-to-order breakfast included in the rate. Staff were very helpful (lent me a phone charger, carried my bag up the narrow stairs to my room, arranged a car service to Heathrow for ~17 British pounds).

Once I saw how busy Windsor was, I was glad to be on the quieter side! Easy walk to the train station, the castle, the theatre, etc. Also, Eton's main street had some interesting shops and an excellent little grocery store (Budgens) with a post office counter inside and very reasonably priced food treats to bring home for family and friends. I can also recommend the prix fixe supper at Cote Brasserie, riverside at the bridge. I hope you enjoy your visit.
