Windsor castle to London

Hello - I'm leaving Windsor Eton Central station on Sept. 5 and then want to go to London (specifically Shakespeare's Globe Theater). I'm pretty sure I take the South West train to Paddington station, but after that it's confusing to get to London Bridge tube stop. Can anyone give me some advice? Leaving Windsor about 13:30. Thanks,

Dan

Have you had a look at TFL’s journey planner? From Paddington it suggests taking the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and from there the Thameslink train to Blackfriars followed by a 10 minute walk.

Prior to the Elizabeth line I would have taken the District or Circle lines to the Central line (Knotting Hill Gate station), then the Central line to the Northern line (Bank station). Then the Northern line to London Bridge. The new line opened just after my visit so I haven’t taken it.

You could give yourself a gift and take a cab. Usually, I slog my way there (referring to the Globe) from wherever I happen to be in London - figuring out tube and even walking long distances. And then, last time, I figured I deserved a break. I took a cab as part of the trip enjoyment.

PS, love the Globe. My all-time favorite production there is Emma Rice's Midsummer Night's Dream. Have a great time.

PPS, I mean cab from Paddington to the Globe.

I would take the train from Windsor and Eton Riverside to London Waterloo and walk to the Globe.

I like the answer just above.

I think that Dan is a little confused by the trains.

There are two stations in Windsor, served by different companies and going to different parts of London.

The station directly opposite the castle is Windsor & Eton Central as mentioned in the OP. But it is Great Western trains (GWR) and does go into Paddington station with a cross platform change at Slough heading towards Windsor and a staircase and an up and over at Slough leaving Windsor.

The other station is down the hill and around the castle walls and down to the river and is called Windsor & Eton Riverside. It is the end of a branch - a slow branch - from the South Western Railway (SWR) mainline from London Waterloo. Much slower and a little more expensive than the GWR route, but with no changes on the way.

The tickets are not interchangeable between the two routes.

As said above, a good choice in this case is walk down the hill and take the SWR train from Windsor & Eton Riverside to Waterloo and walk the reasonable distance along the South Bank to the theatre.

In theory the route via GWR / Paddington etc to the Globe would be quicker than via SWR & Waterloo by a few minutes, but there is a lot less changing involved in the latter.

I haven't completely thought this one out, and haven't yet ridden the Lizzy, but how about GWR from Windsor & Eton Central the short shuttle to Slough, then the Lizzy to Farringdon, Thameslink to Blackfriars, and Shank's Pony?

No, I take it back. You're in a week and the through service on the Lizzy isn't until November. Maybe when you do it again next year?
