Windsor at the end or the beginning

We are returning to England this autumn and want to spend an evening/night/partial day in Windsor. It's a short and cheap taxi ride from Heathrow (our airport of arrival and departure). My traveling partner votes that we land at Heathrow and do directly to Windsor by taxi, and make an easy entry into our busy trip. I vote that we take the train out there before we fly home and then just take advantage of the cheap and easy taxi getting to Heathrow.
What say ye all? Can we break our tie?

I'd say that one of the deciding factors would be times of your flights. If you have an early morning Heathrow departure, if might make sense to do Windsor last. Also- what exactly are you wanting to do there? The castle- then opening/closing times might be important? Other things? These should all be factored into your decision.

It may be a short ride to Windsor from Heathrow, but it won't be a cheap one if you just use a taxi from the airport rank. Arranging a Windsor taxi to come and pick you up is a different matter.

As Marco points out, if using a taxi it is much less expensive to go from Windsor to Heathrow by local taxi than to go from Heathrow to Windsor in a taxi from the taxi rank. We took the bus from T5 to Windsor for that reason. It took 45 minutes ( much longer than a taxi) but was inexpensive. MI wouldn't recommend that after a long overseas flight. We were just coming from Spain and spent our final night in Europe in Windsor before flying home. It was a perfect way to end the trip, so I suggest you put it at the end.

It is not difficult to " ease" your way into a trip in London if you go directly there first. And then you could settle in and wouldn't have to move the next day.

Windsor hotels can be expensive, so I recommend a B and B, Frances Lodge, which is not. We paid £90 for a beautiful modern room with a huge bathroom and rain shower. Breakfast was great. They have ten rooms if I recall correctly, all different. It is an easy walk to the castle. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was authentic and excellent.
