Traveling from Paris to London in June. Am staying by Heathrow day before outbound flight. Thinking Windsor Castle in morning. Will it take a whole day or should I try and schedule something else that afternoon? (Not in London) Also, thinking using Windsor Cars instead of bus to Windsor. Also open to any tour suggestions. Thanks a bunch!
Windsor Castle opens at 10:00. Their website recommends an afternoon visit for less crowding, but that may not work for you. If you won't be at your hotel before going to Windsor, and you have bags, you may be able to check them at Windsor Castle's security checkpoint -- see the website.
I spent several hours at the castle and St. George's Chapel. The town is very nice and Eton is across the river, so you could spend a leisurely day there if you want, but you don't need to. I don't have a good idea for the rest of your day, but maybe others will.
In addition to Windsor castle( order your entry tix in advance with timed entry), u can get a tour of Elton college a short walk from Windsor (advance reservation advised). Also for something diff take a lovely ride on the river. Boats are avail with mostly recorded guiding, a beautiful cruise to see how people live in relaxed environment along the river, approx 11 pounds.
How much time you spend in Windsor is dependent on your interest but I think you could easily spend a whole day in the castle and exploring the town. In 2017, we flew into Heathrow and used Windsor Cars to get to Windsor where we stayed overnight before going to London. We also used Windsor Cars to get us into London the next day (there were four of us so minimized the cost). While the drivers weren't very friendly or informative they got us where we wanted to go which is really what's most important.
Thank you to all for the wonderful information! Will arrange Windsor Cars and also the river cruise. Glad to know of both!
