Windsor, 3 nights, 2 little kids

Hi,
My son and his wife and their two small boys (almost 2 and 4) will be flying into Heathrow from Germany on June 16 and out on June 19 to New York in the early afternoon. They would like to visit Windsor Castle and maybe Hampton Court Palace. They won’t have a car and are not sure where to stay and how to make the most of two full days in the area. Any advice?
Thanks so much—this forum is always so helpful!

Staying near Paddington would work well for getting to Windsor. I am a big fan of Hampton Court but would think these kids are too young to get much from it.

Is there anyplace to stay in or near Windsor? Or Eton? I think they want to avoid London this time. Thanks!

We have really enjoyed the Clermont -- nice, elegant and practical. It is conveniently located by the Victoria train station and also down the street from Buckingham Palace.

There are plenty of places to stay in Windsor, but can you specify a budget to help responders?

I'm also interested in places to stay in Windsor. Will be there mid-June. Mid level budget

Hi Dispencer,

Welcome to the forums. Using categories such as mid budget etc may cause a range of different answers as people have different budgets. It may be useful to provide a budget target or range in $ or £ so that you get more targeted answers.

Windsor is full of good hotels. We've stayed at The Castle Hotel and liked it very much.

Do check the Windsor Castle website so you know which days it is open. It used to close two days a week; I don't know if that has changed recently.

The small children may enjoy visiting nearby Legoland.

There is a shuttle bus service to Legoland from stops close to both Windsor rail stations (there are 2 train stations). Please note that this is a chargeable service and is not operated by the park.

Stop in at the Tourist Information Centre, in the town hall, to get information on this shuttle, book tickets for Windsor Castle or Legoland, pick up a map of Windsor, and much more.

The children, as small as they are, ("two small boys...almost 2 and 4") may enjoy Legoland a lot more than Hampton Court.

Windsor has several good taxi services if you'd like to take a taxi to Hampton Court for a day out.

You should check that the kids , particularly the 2yo, is tall enough for the rides at Lego land. From memory, I think he might not be allowed on quite a few of them.

if they do go to Hampton Court Palace - there is a fantastic kids playground in the gardens, called The Magic Garden. We visited for a while after seeing the palace with our 7.5 year old and she had a blast, even in the rain. She also really liked running around the rose garden and checking out the flowers.
