Hi, we are planning to take the train from Windermere to Glasgow in November. When I try to find tickets all I see are first class tickets for this leg of out tour. Anyone know why this is? Thanks for your help
Essentially you are too early for the best fares. Tickets have been released up to the middle of November but as yet the cheaper Advance fares have not yet been loaded. Have a look back in 2/3 weeks.
Thank you
To be exact advance fares ARE in the system, but from Oxenholme. That is because Avanti and Trans Pennine set the fares from Oxenholme.
The advance fares from Windermere cannot be offered until Northern open bookings for their trains on the Windemere to Oxenholme leg. That happens at 0001 UK time on the day which is exactly 8 weeks before travel on all Northern routes.
It matters not a jot- there will still be great advance fares 8 weeks out- even just 2 weeks or less.
It is very interesting that on full fares 1st class is always £1.50 cheaper than standard class off peak from Oxenholme- because there are only anytime singles in standard, but there are off peak singles in 1st class- an interesting quirk.
By the way the fare from Windermere to Glasgow is usually the same as Oxenholme to Glasgow- that is to say that basically Windermere to Oxenholme is free.
