We will be staying for three days in the town of Winchecombe this July. The last day there will be a Sunday. We will have already visited Sudely Castle the day before. What are some things to do with a 5 yr old on a Sunday? Are stores and restaurants open? I have heard bus service isn't available on those days and we won't have a car, so looking for ideas that are walkable. Any suggestions for restaurants in that area?
Check with host or hotel manager to see if the volunteer run Folk and Police Museum will be open. It’s cash only. Small but fascinating place.
You’ll be able to take the little one into the pubs. I enjoyed my meals at both the Red Lion and White Hart Inn pubs.
I also enjoyed my visit to St Peters Church. The volunteer who was there knew his stuff. Fascinating history and don’t miss the grotesques ( gargoyles) outside. Most unusual.
I’d also see if there were any local football ( soccer) matches happening. Ask around in the pubs.
You can also walk part of the Cotswolds way.
I think a five-year old would be fascinated by the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway, which has a station at Winchcombe. You will be able to take journeys by steam train to both Cheltenham and Broadway (although both stations are some way from each of these towns).
I would be inclined to take the steam railway from Winchcombe to Broadway. It would probably take you about 15 minutes to walk from the station to the village centre. If you click this link, you will see the entrance to the station at Broadway on streetview. Click & drag to the right and aligned with road - then proceed forward along the road to see how far it is to the centre of this large village.https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.0422462,-1.8728215,3a,60y,44.67h,92.25t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1syBctvMdi1gab6RH0YHxyBA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m1!1e1
You also will have a walk at the Winchcombe end - see map.>

Here is the railway time table:>https://www.gwsr.com/planning_your_visit/visiting_gwsr/2018_calendar_and_timetables.html
Thank you- I appreciate all these details. I like the idea of exploring but its hard to gauge how far things really are and I don't want her to tire out just trying to get to places. These suggestions really help!
