I posted this issue awhile back, but am trying one more time before we leave for London tomorrow morning. My family is desperately attempting to get ground passes to Wimbledon for this Saturday. We are willing to get up at the crack of dawn to get in the queue in the hopes that our efforts will pay off. However, I have also been told that Ticket Master releases a certain number of tickets at 9:00 the morning before, and that these tickets go very quickly. It was suggested that I register and set up an account ahead of time, but, since my address is in the United States, I have not been able to register at all, since it is considered an international event. Does anyone know if there is any way around this, or if, indeed, this information is true. We arrive in London Friday morning at 7:45, so we might have time to set this up on Ticket Master & hope for good luck. However, I'm afraid that I will hit a road block when I attempt to go on the site to buy these tickets and won't know what to do to remedy the situation. If anyone knows anything about this, I would be SOOOO grateful. Thank you, Linda
We were there last year. We got there about 6:30 am on two different days and we were about #4500 in the queue. That easily got us grounds passes. I think there are about 7000 grounds passes each day. Also, in case you don’t know about this - later in the day, you can buy ”resale” tickets for Centre Court and Court 1 for £15. It was fun to get in to Centre Court. Also, if you’re taking the tube, get off at Southfields station. It’s closer to the queue than the Wimbledon station.
Thank u so much for this info. It makes me much more optimistic.
I hope you enjoy it! We had a great experience.
My husband and three other family members went on Monday morning. They got in line at 5:00 a.m. hoping for grounds tickets and ended up getting Court 1 tickets. They were thrilled! They got to the see a full day of great tennis, including the match between Venus Williams and Cori Gauff. Of course on the 6th day of the tournament that will be less likely, but his advice would be to get there as early as possible to have a chance at the show courts.
Saturday will be busier than weekdays, for obvious reasons.
Lindah, please share with us how it worked for you. You'll have GREAT matches tomorrow.
Did it work out?
Inquiring minds want to know. . . .
So????? How did it go? I really hope you were able to get in! Do let us know...
Thank you one and all for all your advice and encouragement in my pursuit of Wimbledon. We did it!!! We all got up at 4:00 on Saturday morning (July 6), & did have quite an adventure. We rushed to the tube station, only to find that it was closed and was not due to open until 5:30 (yes, I should have checked on this beforehand...). So we took an uber. The uber driver did not let us know that he had no idea where to take us, in terms of the tennis facilities. He first took us to Wimbledon High School. Then drove around looking for the area where we were supposed to get in the queue. Finally, I said that the best thing was to take us to Southfields and we would go from there. The uber driver even had trouble finding this station, but we finally go there around 5:30 and frantically ran to the area to get in the queue. Thousands of people were already there, but our number was slightly below 7,000, so we remained very hopeful. By 11:00, we knew that we would make it! It was a wonderful day - very crowded, so some of the matches were too crowded for us to be able to see, even from afar, but just being on the grounds and watching Federer play from Henman Hill was the best! My grandson was really the lucky one, though, because we all got to see Djokovic on the practice courts, and my grandson was able to wiggle his way to the front, put his newly bought Wimbledon hat out, and Djokovic took it from him and signed it. It was, indeed, a great day!
so much for uber, eh?
I'm so Very Glad that you got in and got to see stuff - and what about this famous grandson of yours? What a guy!!!
So glad.
Great to hear you made onto the grounds. Fed and the Joker! Excellent!!!
And I’m with Nigel, UBER isn’t worth the hassle. Not trust worthy, nor properly trained. Won’t use them solo in states ( have used a couple of times with friends but they were the ones to order the ride) and would never use them in another country.
Thanks very very much for the follow up report!
You had a fantastic day! I am glad you made it & it sounds like you all got grounds passes. What a bonus for your grandson!
That Uber driver sounds like a world-class moron. Why didn’t he enter the AELTC into his GPS?
I use both Uber and Lyft in the States and have no issues whatsoever with the drivers. They are great! They know to use their GPS when unfamiliar with the destination. They also use Waze for the fastest route. It’s not rocket science! If he had used GPS, I wonder if you would have gotten seats in Number 1 Court or Centre Court.
Oh I'm so glad you were able to get in and had such a fantastic day! There is nothing like being at Wimbledon and how lucky of your grandson to have his hat signed by this year's champion!!! Uber...eye roll.
