Wimbledon and...Where else?

We are heading to Wimbledon for the Championships in 2018 and are looking into other places to visit that are within easy public transport access. We have already visited the sights in London several times, and are looking for something more country or coastal.
any advice? We are staying in Wimbledon village.

Have you been to Hampton Court Palace? It is only a few trains tops from Wimbledon

Wimbledon is not a village, it a suburb of London, south-west of the centre, about half way from the centre to the edge of London.
It has the standard public transport for London, a selection of stations depending on where you are in Wimbledon, and London buses.

Other places to visit in south-west London are Hampton Court, Kew Gardens and Kingston-upon-Thames.
Possible places outside London to visit are Portsmouth, Chichester, Winchester and lots more. These are accessible by fast trains, but I think trains to those places run through Wimbledon without stopping, it would be no faster to get there from Wimbledon than from central London.
I would not recommend it as a base.

I'd second Kew Gardens. If you enjoy horticulture it is really something. There is a nice restaurant there, or several choices near the tube station.

Beachy Head and Seven Sisters are accessible by public transport, if you like to hike. Ely has a nice cathedral and is a personal favorite. I had a very pleasant day in Richmond. Surely there are places in London you haven't seen. I've been to London multiple times and I still have a very long list! I could go to the British Museum and the National Gallery every trip.

No advice here but just adding that I'm terribly jealous! Sounds wonderful! The only time I've been to London was right after Wimbledon...we took a bus there hoping to be able to look around at the venue but it was in major cleanup mode and locked down. I could only peer through the bushes. Have a great time!

Wimbledon is not a village, it a suburb of London ...

Wimbledon Village is the older part of Wimbledon pre-dating the arrival of the railway. The newer part of Wimbledon is Wimbledon town.

If you'd like to visit the coast, I would recommend the town of Rye in East Sussex. It's beautiful and rich in history but you'll probably want to stay overnight. A real gem of a place. Fast trains leave from St Pancras station in London. Slower ones from Victoria station.
Brighton is also an easy day trip by train. Chichester and Winchester both have lovely cathedrals and are worth a visit.
