Which Rick Steve's gudebook to purchase?

Hi we're planning our England trip for this year's Christmas week . We plan to purchase a Rick Steve's gudebook. Just wanted to know if we should get the Rick Steve's England or the Rick Steve's London. What's the big difference? We'll be spending most of our time in London and use it as our base. I saw in amazon that both are almost the same price so I'm wondering which one should I get? Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I've been in the same boat. I went to the local Barnes & Noble and flipped through both to see which would be more useful. I decided on the England edition.

Happy travels!

Rick usually has a page or so to answer this question on the website. The London guide will have far more information than the London portion of the Great Britain guide. So, how much time are you actually spending in London? and the rest? It may be appropriate to buy (or consult) both.

And of course, only take the portions of the book you need. Saves weight.

There will be more walking tours and greater detail in the London book. We have both. Small price to pay for an expensive trip. If spending more time in London then get the London book.

I have the Rick Steves' England book, but would recommend you buy the London book if you're just going to be concentrating on London and day trips from London. I have the England guidebook and it has a lot of information that you would not need for your trip -- the London section is only 1/6 of the book or so.

The city-specific guides usually have separate chapters for specific attractions/neighbourhoods. Typically the RS guides focusing on one city also have a section on daytrips as well (I haven't read the London guide though so I'm not 100% sure but I flipped through the Rome one and think I saw a section on daytrips).
