My sister booked, grange white hall hotel. For 3 nights before we go to Southampton to cruise on the QM2. Being an artist I wanted to see a lot of British Museum. I wanted a quiet place to sleep. Was this a good choice hotel wise and area wise? Anyone have any suggestions.
Thank you.
The British Museum is a gantastic museum bit as an artist would you like to visit art museums like The Tate? Sorry I don't know the hotel.
We stayed almost across the street from the British Museum at The Montague at the Gardens. Loved it!
This hotel is across the street from the Montague. Google Street view shows the street to seem a quiet one. Reviews on booking.com seem fine.
I'm surprised that the BM is where you want to spend your time, and not the art museums ( the Tates, Natl Gallery, etc). Russell Square is probably the closest Underground station.
I've stayed at Grange White Hall. It's fine, but not luxurious. It has a lift, and they have thoughtful touches like magazines in the rooms.
My room was a good size although it had sloping floors because it's such an old building. Good bathroom, which was a good size. However the TV in the room didn't work properly (this is a known fault, according to the charming young Polish man whose job it was to fix it, twice).
The breakfast wasn't great - small room & poor quality food. I'd recommend staying room-only, and grabbing coffee & a pastry nearby.
It's a great area to stay in. Lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. The hotel felt safe and the bed was very comfy. I'd stay there again if the price was okay.
The Grange is okay, not the Dorchester but you get what you pay for. Excellent location for the Museum Tavern. There is also a museum opposite the pub, I think.
Last month we stayed at the Club Quarters at Lincoln's Inn Fields. Fantastic modern hotel. It's less than 10 minute walk to the British Museum and about a block from the Holborn metro station. The hotel faces Lincoln's Inn Fields so it's super quiet at night too.
