Where to stay in York

Early planning for 2027. I will have 2 nights in York.
Do you have recommendations on clean ensuite budget bnb?
I only need a single room.
I like St Mary Guesthouse, which only 10 min walk from the train station. It has good reviews

Anyone stayed here? It's about 15 min walk to York Minster.
Thanks

We stayed at Arnot House. We felt it was budget friendly, also close to Minster and train station. The rate includes breakfast and the hostess is very helpful and attentive.

I know the street, I used to stay in York a lot in the 90s and that was the area I liked.

The walk from the station is easy, via a pedestrian route whihc has been improved since my time. Leave from the front side of the station, preferably the small exit by the end of platfrom 2 (York Tap bar on right). Or if the crowds take you to the main entrance go to the left side and then left past the front of the York Tap. And then walk right through the short stay car park! Keep to the left side at the far end - do NOT go down to the street but use the footbridge attached to the railway and cross the river, once across go down and loop under the railway onto the river bank, then take the path on the right that follows the other side of the railway and just follow the railway until you see the guesthouse. Almost a traffic free route!

We stayed at the Abbey Guest House for 2 nights in June 2023. It's just across the bridge from the train station and an easy walk into York proper.

Thanks Jules.
I'll check out Arnot House.

Thanks, me.Crewe for the details how to get to the guesthouse.
That's great that it's easy to get to from train station to St Mary guesthouse.
My date is still too far out (Sept 2027) I just put some random dates for weekend nights fo St Mary Guesthouse, it was about 130 pounds per night includes breakfast, which is really great i think.

Yes, thanks Jules. I just reserved the Arnot House for December. I had not come across it until your post. The price was the same as St Mary’s which I had also been looking at and it had better reviews.

We liked the Abbey Guest House, especially for the location near the river, a short walk to the station and also to the main city sights. This was some years back, I believe the ownership has changed, so you might want to check out recent reviews.

Thank you for the suggestions.
I got some great ideas from here.
Abbey house now only room only.
I don't need a lot for breakfast, but rather have it included in the rate for convenience.

Not too ashamed to say we stayed at York Central Travelodge. : ) Just make sure you don't get a room facing the water as there's a rather loud beer garden-type gathers spot directly below/out the window. It serves us well as there was three of us and didn't have to get a second room. Oddly enough the noise ended rather promptly around 10:30 or so.

We just stayed 5 nights at No. 21 in York and it was wonderful. 5 min to train station, 5 min to Minster, right by the beautiful ruins of St Mary's Abbey. The room was very large, very comfortable, and Simon's breakfasts were amazing! He sources everything locally, makes everything he bakes from scratch including breads, the best muesli, and cookies in your room. The breakfasts were huge, we could never eat the whole thing. We enjoyed talking with him at breakfast. There is a mini-fridge in the room which we appreciated. Highly recommended.
