I'll be in England in April and am looking for recommendations on a base for the following sights: Monk's House, Charleston, Rye, Sissinghurst, and Chartwell. I prefer to stay in one place for about six nights and take day trips by train to each sight. I will not have a car. I'm considering Lewes, Hastings, and Rye. Your thoughts? Thank you.
I live in this area. Trying to get to these places by public transport is going to take you far, far longer than driving.
Sorry, but there isn’t one base that’s going to be suitable to cover all the places. For Rodmell (Monk’s House) and Charleston, Lewes or Brighton would be best. For the other places, Tunbridge Wells or Sevenoaks or the villages along the train line between Tonbridge and Ashford may work best, but some of the commutes are going to be time consuming.
