Where to stay in London with 2 double beds

I am planning to visit London in May for 10 days with my adult daughter, and if possible we don't wish to share a bed. Also, I'm 6' 3" so a twin bed wouldn't work for me. After exhaustive searching, I realize that I will have to pay much more for 2 larger beds. Has anyone found a place (apartment or hotel) with 2 double beds? I think we want to make Covent Garden or Mayfair our central base to explore the city. Thank you!

Not sure if you would be happy with this, but a lot of triple rooms has a double bed and a twin bed.
It’s not in the location you want, but The London Elizabeth Hotel is in a great location across the street from Hyde Park, two minute walk to Lancaster Gate tube station, it has a triple room. The Rhodes Hotel, again not in your location, but in a great location near Hyde Park.

It’s quite rare to find two double beds in the same room. I’m not sure how much money you’re prepared to spend: for me the easiest thing would be just to book two hotel rooms.

Rooms are SO much smaller in London than they are in the US.

I think we need to be clear what you want. A “double” bed in the UK i.e. a bed shared by two people is traditionally 135cm x 190cm. As people have grown bigger (both length and width-wise), hotels nowadays usually offer King size beds (150cm x 200cm) to be shared by two people.

For people who are happy to share a room but not the bed that’s where a twin bedded room comes in. The two beds will be at least 190cm long – the same length as a traditional “double” bed.

Having said all the above, two “double” beds in one room is not very common. If you still want two double beds, then that takes you into a suite. In areas like Mayfair - £500+.

For further clarification on sizes contact the hotels - lot's of Europeans are six-footers

I was thinking 2 Queen beds, or a double and a Queen. It's probably best to find a VRBO or Airbnb that has 2 bedrooms or at least a pull out couch.

Perhaps you should consider a less expensive hotel and purchase two rooms: a double and a triple. This would be economical in a hotel such as Cherry Court Hotel, which is in Victoria area.

If you are looking in Mayfair then budget isn't an issue.

Try one of the big US or UK hotels on Park Lane such as the Dorchester or Hilton, or a US chain in Piccadilly such as the Holiday Inn Mayfair, or perhaps the Ritz also in Piccadilly, or perhaps near Covent Garden the Doubletree in Southampton Row. US chains with rooms large enough often can have two large beds in some rooms.

Don't look at any hotels converted from houses, not even US chains, because the rooms won't be large enough.

What about the Crowne Plaza City in Blackfriars - while neither Mayfair nor Covent Garden it does have good transport links (Blackfriars Thameslink and Blackfriars Underground (Circle and District lines) and absolutely shedloads of buses going all over) and it is a purpose built building with as I remember quite large rooms, and it is on the Thames.

If you are using something like Booking.com, setting the number of guests to 3 adults. This should give you options with 2 doubles/queens or a double with 1 twin or a sofabed. It will also include other listings where you would need to book 2 separate rooms so you can compare prices of 1 vs. 2 rooms.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but my family has booked a family room at the Premier Inn London County Hall. It is very reasonably priced and seems to be in an excellent location- right by the London Eye. The family room has at least one double bed with either two twins or one extra double - maybe a sofa bed? Haven't stayed there before, but gets good reviews and I figured we can't beat it for the location and price.

The Premier Inn website currently states that there is construction going on near the County Hall hotel. I do not know how significant that is, or what parts of the hotel are affected by the noise, but I figure it is probably significant or the company wouldn't feel it needed to report the situation on its website.

Your best bet is to look at the major hotel chains. Most Marriott or Hilton hotels we've stayed at have had two large beds in the rooms.

London Marriot Regents Park. Stayed there one year. Two large queen beds in the room, flat screen and huge bathroom. It was the only time I’ve ever used Priceline. Loved the price I paid. Great room.

However, you aren’t in the city center which was fine with me but not be for people visiting London for the first time.

Swiss Cottage is the tube stop 10 minute walk from the hotel.

I’m a walker so I like walking through the leafy quiet surrounding neighborhood over to Regents Park and the stroll up Primerose Hill. Lovely park and from there some nice shops and dining spots along St John’s Woods high street.

If memory serves there was also a small but nice cafe in the Swiss Cottage library that I liked. The close by Swiss Cottage Pub is quirky but fine. I actually found the North Star Pub another block away more to my liking.

Final caveat is that Abbey Road is about 25 minute saunter from the Marriot. I rather liked that.

Swiss Cottage is Nice semi lively outlying London neighborhood to explore.

Just finished a family trip and stayed at the Bankside Hotel at 2 Blackfriars Road. Room had two queen beds and spacious rooms. Very quiet at night. 4 minute walk to Blackfriars tube stop.
