where to stay for one night in london to make travel to hawkshurst easy the next day

Hi,
We get into Heathrow from the states around 10am on a Thursday and will be taking a train to Hawkshurst for a wedding on Friday probably around noon or so. Where would be the best place for us to stay to see a few sights and have the least amount of traveling hassle? We will be back the following Monday for a few days when we will be able to sightsee in ernest. I am thinking some cool walks to take in the vibe. We love art, music, good food (I am a vegetarian but my boyfriend isn't). We are an energetic progressive couple who is used to being in an urban environment.

What rail station will you use to go to Hawkhurst? Charing Cross? IF so, there is a Hub by Premier Inn in Covent Garden, not a far walk for you.

Which route to Hawkhurst are your hosts recommending?

Hawkhurst doesn’t have a station, so you would have to go to Etchingham, Stonegate or Staplehurst. Most trains depart from Charing Cross or London Bridge, so staying near here would be sensible. The Premier Inn chain is a good starting point.

Sorry, I don’t know what being a “progressive couple” means, but Hawkhurst is about as non- urban as you can get in south east England.
