Where to Pet a Hairy Coo (Near Edinburgh?)

This may seem like an absurd question, but both myself and travel buddy want to find (and pet if feasible) a hairy coo. I'm assuming the safest place would be some sort of petting zoo that has the hairy creature on site, since a wild one or semi feral running about someone's farm with those long horns sounds like a bad idea. Does anyone know of a place where you can have a photographic coo opportunity and petting?

I'll be traveling through both Edinburgh, Falkirk, and Stirling...so anywhere around there is fine....

Thanks so much for this link. This is a must do for me. I have been up close and personal with a couple of hairy coos, but it was in Oregon. I'll be thrilled to see them in their pasture instead of on a trailer at a rest stop on IH5. The rest of that day tour looks very enjoyable, too.

You may see Highland cattle all over Scotland. They are small and generally quite friendly. Those horns do look intimidating, so if you want to pet one it is best at one of the locales set up for this.

They have quite a following here on the west coast of the US ( Washington, Oregon, maybe Idaho and Montana). They are hardy and tough as livestock, but some people even keep them as pets.

Well, they aren't huge, and I've never had a problem with them, even walking through their fields.

Another question:
How does a hairy coo taste in a taco?
Chased by a bottle of Scotch, of course.
Yo estoy curioso.

I don't know why anybody would be wary of petting a cow of any kind. Cows are very docile animals, just don't sneak up on them from behind, they can pack quite a kick. A very large angry bull on the other hand is best left alone.

I see highland cattle all the time around Oregon and not in petting zoos or tourist stops. Many farmers/ranchers around here have them and I have seem them often in fields when driving the back roads of OR. Also saw them all over when I was in Scotland, have some wonderful pics of some calves taken at one of the lighthouses on the coast. They are adorable. Also saw them in New Zealand. They're not just in Scotland anymore.

We have amazing pictures of our son petting some Hairy Coos. I'm not exactly sure of directions but you could ask someone in town for specifics. We stayed in Pitlochry and drove to see Blair Castle. On the road to house of Bruar there is a RV ( caravan) park. Right on the main road are some Hairy Coos! They are very tame, came right over to us, hoping for an apple. We got some great pictures. It was just in time because Rabbie's tour bus just showed up. I think this was a popular stop for the tour crowd. But we had fun and got some great pictures!

Am I for real? Yes, quite real.

What is the point of your question? The Highland cows are, as others have noted, quite docile, despite the fierce look of the horns. The bulls are a different matter, but that is true of any bovine breed, especially dairy breeds.

BTW you do realize that you posted a question about Scotland in the England forum, right? Don't make that mistake in Edinburgh. Scotland is still part of the United Kingdomand is on the island of Great Britain, but is NOT England. With an English grandmother and a Scottish grandfather, I know whereof I speak! ;)

Compared to the Longhorns of my home state, the hairy coos are definitely cute and cuddly. The same comparison goes for the range cattle we drive through on our way to town and back. About 10 miles of that drive is through open range where the cattle have the right of way. The breeds are highly mixed and except for the calves, they are all very large. So I'm definitely for real in wanting to pet those hairy coos. They are as unique as Texas Longhorns and much less intimidating.
