Where to go in England

Hey, all. I am going to be in the U.K. For some time in September. I will be visiting Scotland, wales, and England. My question is about England. I will be visiting London for a time and then the Hampshire area.
I want to pick one other place to visit in England. (Keeping in mind that I am using public transport only) I would love to visit more of the English country side but have found it hard to find cheap accommodations as I am budget traveling and using public transport.
If you had to pick one place to visit besides London, where would it be?
My interests if it helps:
Art
Music
Literature (big reader)
Food/coffee/cafe culture

I'd look from Brighton to Bath, and places in between like the Isle of Wight, Salisbury and Stonehenge.

No worries! Glad to have he input! I'll be there for around two weeks and then heading over to Ireland.

The plan is to stay in conwy. Nothing is completely concrete right now except London. I'm still trying to figure out what to see.

"I would love to visit more of the English country side but have found it hard to find cheap accommodations"

What is your price point? I can't speak to the countryside, but in September 2016 I stayed in Glasgow, Manchester, and Liverpool. Not only were all three highly worthwhile, but I found accommodations MUCH less expensive than in London. If you're interested in a city instead of a countryside destination, here's my trip report, which includes hotel details: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/uk-trip-report-glasgow-manchester-liverpool-in-september-2016

Cotswolds, can take train to Moreton-in-Marsh, then take bus to several villages Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway and a few others.

We enjoyed both Bath and York. Depending on how much time you have, you could easily do both, using the train to go from place to place. Also from York we did a day trip, by train, to Durham -- another stunning city.

I agree with Robin--the Cotswolds are so picturesque--and are an easy train ride from London. I would only add one more Cotswold town to her list: Chipping-Camden. It can get crowded with tourists in summer but by September should be fine. ? You might want to pick up a car in Moreton-on-Marsh. Last time we were there, the car rental agency met us at the railway station, so it was very convenient. That being said, we, too, are going to be in England in September and this time are visiting York and the Yorkshire Dales. I've had several people tell me that York is a must-see, so we're going to cross it off our list ...

You have gotten some great suggestions. I would suggest the Cotswolds or a trip up to York. You will see lots of countryside out the windows of the train on your trip up.
Your schedule has changed quite a bit from one of your previous threads talking about your trip:

From your previous threads, you seem to change your mind frequently about where you will be going. But that's the way we all are--always refining our itinerary, adding places, deleting places until we get a final plan worked out.
