where to eat in London- I see Belgo Centrall is permanently closed

We always ate at lease once at Belgo Centrall. Where do you recommend now?

Yes… Belgo is closed! It is sad. We used to love that place! :-(

Now… what neighborhood are you looking at? Near Covent Garden/Seven Dials? Or further afield? And what sort of food do you like?

We adore:

*) The Devonshire: perfect pint of Guinness, beef aged on premises, superior seafood, amazing prices.
*) The Golden Union: best fish ‘n’ chips in London (fight me).
*) Dishoom: terrific Indian food with the most amazing black dahl anywhere.

If you want seafood and don’t mind going a bit out of central/tourist London, The Summerhouse in Little Venice/Maida Vale is lovely. Do not get the fish ‘n’ chips (only get fish ‘n’ chips at a chippie). But anything else you order will be on point. Their signature popcorn shrimp is soooooo good, and their moules marinière are classic goodness.

Mercado Mayfair is a trip, a multi-level food court inside a decommissioned church! Just don't try to bring in outside food, since they are about food.

I loved Belgo too and was very sad when the whole chain closed. If you are looking for moules frites, I was going to recommend Lowlander in Covent Garden (Belgian pub) but I just checked and it appears it's currently being renovated and rebranded as The Marlborough Head, and I have no idea what it will be like once it reopens.

If you want something else in the area that is a similar type of casual dining and price point, there are several very good ramen chains, including Shoryu, Ippudo, and Bone Daddies nearby. There's also Eat Tokyo for other types of Japanese food. Dishoom as mentioned above is very good tho you may need to queue, and of course you have all of Chinatown nearby. My favourite may be Leong's Legend (dim sum) or Rasa Sayang (Malaysian).

We had a pleasant meal at Cafe Rouge next to St. Pauls, I believe it is a French bistro chain. They do varieties of afternoon tea as well.

For the real brasserie experience try Balthazar at Covent Garden.
