Where to buy Tennis magazines in London

Maybe I have missed them in the past, but when I have gone to newsstands at Heathrow and Paddington, I have not seen any tennis magazines to buy.

Are there any newsstands that specialize in sports magazines where I can find magazines covering British tennis? I am leaving for London at the end of next week.

Thanks.

I didn’t realize Selfridges sells sports magazines or that there is even a newsstand on the ground floor. I will look. Thank you.

My Readly app doesn't show any tennis magazines and they have magazines that no-one could ever imagine would have an audience! I don't think there are any tennis magazines.

WH Smith sells magazines. Not sure about tennis magazines.

Perhaps a sporting goods store with a decent tennis department might have them. Lillywhites off Piccadilly circus comes to mind.

You could go to the Waterstones on Piccadilly or Foyle's on Charging Cross as they both sell magazines.

I've looked for British tennis magazines on other visits and have come up empty although I haven't gone out of my way in search of them.

Last November when we were in Paris & western Germany, at the Relay newsstand at Gare du Nord, I bought two French tennis magazines. When we visited a close friend who lives about 30 minutes outside of Dortmund, at her town's commuter rail station, there was a book store/newsstand that sold German tennis magazines. My husband bought one.

Tennis is just as popular in the UK as it is in France & Germany so I would think it would be just as easy to find tennis magazines. Thanks for the links and suggestions.

On this trip, my husband asked if I could keep my eye out for any as a favor to him. Hence I thought to ask here as I have come up with nothing in the past. Thank you for your suggestions.

Hasn't Waterstones on Piccadilly closed? I remember looking for them this past March as they are located near Hatchards. Or have they re-opened? WH Smith is the chain I've seen most often at Heathrow and rail stations. I've come up with nothing. I haven't checked Foyles so I will. I'll check out Lillywhites/Sports Direct too.

I will email them -- brilliant. Thank you!

There was a large bookstore several floors with a café on top near Hatchards and Fortnum & Mason (same side of Piccadilly too) that was closed. I had asked about it at Hatchards and one of the employees mentioned that it had closed. I thought it was Waterstones? Maybe whichever it was closed to re-do the store and it has re-opened?

Waterstones on Piccadilly has not closed. It is, now, the largest bookstore in Europe--according to them.

FYI--both Hatchards and Foyle's are owned by Waterstones.

I haven't been to Lillywhites since it was bought so I am not aware of the changes.

Some WH Smith are bigger than others so magazine selection will vary by location.

How about checking with Wigmore Sports in Marylebone as they specialize in racket sports?

Update:

I just received an email from a manager at Tennishead who recommended that I not search for his magazine in stores because the magazine purposely keeps distribution to a bare minimum and they have no means of real-time updates of when magazines are sold out. The magazine only comes out 4X/year. Baffling considering what I wrote above about how easy it was to buy tennis magazines in newsstands in Paris and smaller towns in Germany that we visited last November.

He said he wanted to save me from going on a wild goose chase. He also wrote to me on a Sunday night which was very kind of him.

He offered to send me the most recent Tennishead magazine to my hotel for an extra shipping surcharge. I don’t want the magazine that badly.

I hope UK Tennis has better distribution. All of this for a tennis magazine? 😉

If it weren’t, I wouldn’t buy it. Very strange title for a thorough quarterly magazine. I’ve seen tennis magazines now in France, Germany, and the UK. All of them are light years better than the American fluff called Tennis magazine which is now published in conjunction with the Tennis Channel. It is a global Tennis magazine

I am looking at the table contents and see a columnist write a piece about the dangers of on court coaching which is now ubiquitous on the WTA. Another columnist talks about how governing bodies of tennis are not working together. There’s another article about why are next GEN male players are struggling. The cover story is about the return of Andy Murray playing singles. These are just a few of the articles.

I always while away hours at Waterstones on Picadilly during my London visits. I have my fidelity card and everything!! Hope you enjoy your visit there (although you of course aren’t desperate as I am for an English-language bookshop since you have plenty of options back home!!).

I went to Waterstones twice but could not find a place to sit so I could not spend time even enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. It’s very popular.

I did however spend time at Hatchards as there was a place to sit and I enjoyed browsing in books and then buying them before I left. I love that store. On Friday evening, I happened to see Deborah Harry signing books. I guess she goes by Debbie now!
