When to buy late summer tickets to London from West Coast

Hello,

What is the best time of year to buy tickets to London for summer from either PDX or SEA? Would be willing to fly from SFO if that local would offer a substantial discount over PDX or SEA. Favorite airlines or routes, or ones to avoid? Nonstop flights would be preferable.

Thanks!

That's really an impossible question to answer. Airlines have unanticipated sales. Soft demand can lead to discounts. Jet fuel prices can change.

I would pick your most desired flights on Google Flights and set a fare alert, so if there is a flight sale, you can jump on it.

I prefer direct flights too. I would love to get the direct Delta flight from PDX to LHR if I were going to London.

If you book right now for next July, the Delta direct flight from PDX is just over $800 per person round trip, give or take. Not much cheaper with a connection.

British Airways from Seattle is much cheaper - $516 round trip to London for next July.

SFO might be a tad cheaper for a direct flight depending on the day but I'm guessing Seattle is much more practical for you.

I would never book something so far in advance myself, but I know some people do. Personal preference, up to you. That $516 price would be pretty tempting. I'll bet it won't go down much, but you never know. More likely to go up the longer you wait.

$516 for a roundtrip ticket on British Airlines sounds very good to me. The last time we bought Economy tickets on BA for Seattle to London in summer, it was $1400 per person! Now we fly with miles and still use BA. I like the 747 they fly on this route.

Other choices from Seattle (for non-stop flights) are Virgin Atlantic and Delta.

I suggest you use an App like Hopper that searches, predicts price changes and advises on when best to buy. I used it last Summer and eventually purchased r/t tickets for late August for $427 r/t SFO to London! I think I started looking in June and purchased in July. It was an non-stop flight with Virgin Atlantic. The tickets were basic fare so we paid an additional $60.00 each for checked baggage, which was still a deal! We are traveling in England now for 5 weeks and are having a wonderful time!

Thanks for this info! I did recently find that SEA to London in early October is only $500 on Virgin Atlantic for a RT nonstop flight!
