When to buy and how to use Two Together Railcard?

Hey Guys.
I am getting ready to buy my train tickets from Edinburgh to York and then from York to London in May. I plan on using the Two Together Railcard option when buying my tickets. My question is when do I buy my Two Together Card? Do I have to have it and enter a code or something before I buy my tickets online? Can I buy my discounted tickets now and then do I simply show my railcard when I board the train? Thanks guys!!

You can only buy the Two Together Card in the UK so purchase tickets online using the Two Together Option and get the card when you are in country. Be sure to have passport type photos of both people who will be named on the card. It is purchased in a full service station like Kings Cross. The conductor may or may not ask to see the card but have it ready when they ask to validate your tickets when the train is underway. You don't need to show anything to get on board.

You may get more help, but basically you indicate online as you are purchasing the tickets that you are using this pass. Then you purchase the pass at a train station (remember your photos) before you take your journey. I bought mine and they printed my pre-purchased tickets at the same time at St. Pancras for my first journey. It was simple. For each set of tickets, I indicated where I would pick them up. You will need to have your railcard and your ticket for your journey. You need your ticket to board (and sometimes the conductor asks to see your pass as they come through). You need your ticket as you exit, also.

There is a two together rail pass application form online. I would suggest you complete the application before you depart for your trip and keep it with your additional passport photos until you get to ticketing office in Edinburgh. Do not try to make copies of existing passport photos. The ticket agent at Kings Cross was not happy with my photo copies but did begrudgingly accept them.

Look at the website The Man in Seat 61 and search for train travel from London to Edinburgh. There is good information, also pictures of the train stations along with suggested points of interest when traveling that route (even though you will be traveling in reverse order).

Thanks guys. About the passport photos.....do you guys have separate photos instead of showing your passport? Is showing your passport for identification not a good idea?

Thanks guys. I had no idea I needed other photos than what was on my Passport and American Drivers License. I will make sure to get them!

You can purchase the Two Together Railcard at any London train station. Both people have to have passport size pictures. Just make sure you purchase it before boarding the train, the conductor might ask you to see it. When you purchase your train tickets online make sure you select two together railcard option.

The requirement for passport-sized photos is common, not just for passport applications, but also for including on cards such as this. Many stations and other locations have passport photo machines for this purpose, including Edinburgh (I googled it).

You can buy online and upload digital photos, but then you need a UK address for it to be posted to.

You do not need your passport or driving licence.
