Hello everyone.
My husband and I were fortunate to get tickets to a November 7th, 2017, tour of Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame. We loved that show--the history and social commentary of it--so this is a special splurge for us.
We'll be coming by train from London to the Newbury Station and will continue on afterwards, by train, to Bath. So we'll be carrying everything we have--each of us will have a carry-on sized wheeled suitcase, coats, and a small backpack-like bag to carry. I believe we'll have to take a local taxi (maybe Lyft?) to and from the train station to Highclere.
I'm trying to avoid the inconvenience of carrying our luggage to the castle. Although the Highclere office has been kind enough to offer to keep our bags at their tourist reception desk (not something they normally do), it would be easier not to take everything we own there. My back would prefer it, especially if we have to take gravel walks, and we won't need anything in our bags. Besides, we'd feel like the country-bumpkin cousins who are trying to move in. Highclere doesn't have any other options for baggage.
Based on the train website and what I've read elsewhere, the Newbury train station doesn't have any locker facilities. I've heard that some taxi companies will offer to keep your bags (in their cars??) when they drive you over but that sounds very precarious.
Does anyone have any ideas for ways we can store our bags (safely) in or near the Newbury train station? If you do, we'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
