What to do in 3 days in London in November?

We will be in London November 20-23. Any suggestions are welcome on what to see to maximize the experience. I know that not everything is open on Sunday, but what is that's worth going? Thanks in advance!

Pretty much everything you would want to see is open on Sunday, except churches for sightseeing, as they are busy having services (although you are welcome to attend most everywhere). I don't know why you would think London shuts down on a Sunday. A quick Google will give you the official web site for whatever attraction you're interested in, and their opening days and times.

What are you interested in? History, and any specific period? Markets, architecture, modern art, not modern art, street art, music of all types, dance, theatre, opera, comedy, beer, food, parks, cemeteries, palaces, castles, museums, galleries, bookstores? London has all of that, and more.

If you're not sure, hit up your local library/bookstore/Amazon for some guidebooks, to get an idea of what there is.

Three days isn't much time, especially if that includes arriving and departing. You might tell us more about your trip and your interests, to get suggestions. Hope you have a good trip.

I've often found Europe closes on a Sunday, and plan shopping trips accordingly. London however, is fully open on Sunday's... but does have reduced opening hours, generally 12:00 - 18:00 for shops (instead of 09:00 - 22:00), the 'attractions' tend to keep fairly even times across the week, maybe 10:00 - 18:00.

After 18:00, there are thousands of pubs and restaurants to chose from, or take a night walk around sunset along the Thames south bank, as I did last night coincidently... and it was buzzing!

There are small exceptions... like Borough Market and Leadenhall Market, which are closed on Sundays. And 'the city' (financial district) is basically closed at weekends, but there are really no tourist destinations within it anyway.

The best way to maximize your time -

  • group the sights you want to see by area.
  • Make a list of the sights that have evening hours
  • Don't limit yourselves to "sights" - take a London Walks tour, visit Borough Market on Thursday or Friday, see a play.

Start at Parliament Square. Parliament, Big Ben, Churchill War Rooms, Westminster Abbey. Nice walk up Birdcage walk through St James Park to Buckingham Palace or walk up White Hall past the Horse Guards, #10 Downing Street to Trafalgar Square. National Gallery is there as is St. Martin's of the Fields. Could then walk over to Covent Garden.
Or start a day at the Tower of London, then walk to Leadenhall market, then over to St. Paul's then down to the River Thames. Get an RS guide book and research what it is you want to see in your 3 days. You'll just scratch the surface.

Thank you everyone for their kind replies. We will be staying at the Hilton London Tower Bridge hotel. It is sort of centered so there are a lot of things to see. That is why I am having a hard time pick which way to go...Also, we will be in London 11/20-11/23. Then we are heading over to Paris (I will post another topic as to where is better to stay in Paris). And then we are coming back to fly home from London, but will have 1 more afternoon/evening in London, on Saturday, 11/28. Any recommendations as to where we should actually stay so it is not too far from the airport and yet close enough to walk to see and eat on our last day?
Thank you in advance!
