What to do for a few hours.....

We are arriving in Heathrow Airport at 6:25 AM & we plan on taking the tube to St. Pancras as we have a train reservation at 17:16 which will leave for Amsterdam.

We want to get some good fresh air & keep active during the day; what would you suggest that is walking distance & kinda close to St. Pancras?

ALSO, we just each have a back-pack; I assume that there are lockers in St. Pancras?

THANK you for your advise.

There are lots of people here who know more about London than I do, and I tend to spend a lot of time in museums, which is definitely not a good plan for you after an overnight flight.

I've taken seven LondonWalks tours and enjoyed them. The cost is £10 a person (£8 for seniors), and you don't have to make reservations, so you can wait to be sure the weather is conducive to being outdoors. You just show up at the designated meeting point. The tours typically last about two hours.

I don't know the timing of your trip. The walks schedule on the website right now runs though the end of April. I'm not sure how soon the summer schedule will be posted. The download link is at the upper right (at least it's there on a desktop computer).

The British Library is REALLY close -maybe 5 minutes away. The issue with this is the Treasures Room is very dimly lit to preserve the collection so for me that would be less than good on a jet lag day!! But the collection is jaw dropping!!

The British Museum is perhaps a mile away so that might be a good choice if the weather is not good. It’s brighter in there as well as being free.

Covent Garden is about a mile and a half away with shops and restaurants.

Easy answer.

Behind St Pancras is the relatively new Granary Square/Coal Drop Yards development.

Google both.

As noted a short walk behind St Pancras station and over the Regent Canal you’ll find both.

You could also walk along the canal path to Camden Lock market.

in St. Pancras?

There are no lockers at any mainline London train stations. They were removed due to IRA terrorism I believe.

There is a left-luggage office with airport-style security scanners. It costs about £10 a bag.

In the St Pancras area itself there’s the Regents Canal or you could walk up to Camden - alternately it’s an easy walk down to Covent Garden and other central London attractions.

It’s also a major hub for tube & buses so all of central London is at your doorstep.

Don't leave the check in for the Eurostar until the last minute - you need an hour before departure - at least.

It used to be half an hour then 45 minutes. I was through there a couple of weeks ago and the staff said that my hour recommendations are right. Now with the difficulties in France and England I suggest an hour is the absolute minimum.

You don't want to miss the train.
