I will be visiting London in mid March and would like to attend an Evensong service. I know St. Paul's and Westminster Abbey have Evensong, what are some of the other churches that you'd recommend for a memorable evensong service?
Westminster Abbey is our favorite. Don’t know about the other options.
I agree with Suki. I have tried to make myself go to other services, but I love the service in the glorious Westminster Abbey.
Did people dress up for Evensong?
Southwark Cathedral (Anglican), and Westminster Roman Catholic Cathedral - for Vespers (the Roman Catholic equivalent)

Not really....to any of the places big and small that I've attended Evensong. I just went in my "touring clothes" - jeans or travel pants, athletic shoes, tee shirt and some kind of sweater or topper. In mid-March the churches or cathedrals will likely be chilly so have some kind of long sleeve with you.
Now, my answer is tailored to what I think the demographic of the forum is....most people here are not going to be touring in shorts and flipflops, hahaha! Especially England in March!
Either St Brides or St Bartholomew The Great. No, people don’t really dress up for Evensong.

People generally don't dress up for church in the UK, in my experience. And if it's a church that is popular with tourists, people tend to attend in their normal 'tourist' clothing, rather than dress specifically for church. Personally I just wear smart casual - long trousers, long sleeved shirt plus jumper/jacket as required.
I do like Westminster Abbey, but I do also sometimes prefer something more contemporary, so do sometimes go to Holy Trinity Brompton (aka HTB). It depends what style of service you're looking for. On the more traditional side, The Chapel Royal (St James's Palace) may appeal.
We went to Westminster Abbey for Evensong. I wore a long summer dress with a scarf around my shoulders, and my husband had a golf shirt and nice pants. I don’t know if it mattered, but they put us in the front row. A similar thing happened at the York Minster. I was wearing a nice dress. We were in folding chairs off to the side. The person seating people motioned to my husband & me and moved us from sitting in folding chairs to move to the ? person’s special seats because he was out of town that day. We’re in our 60’s. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
We did see a variety of clothing at Westminster Abbey. People were less casual at York Minster & the Chester Cathedral’s Evensong.
The aim is a good choir. St Pauls is a common choice for me. I also like Temple Church but you need to check if the boys choir is singing. For Evensong, the choir usually signs on Wednesdays.
We've been to evensong at Westminster Abbey, and it was of course transcendent, but I now enjoy the smaller churches – St Bride's is a particular favorite, and they are so welcoming; Temple Church is also wonderful.
My favorite church in London for Evensong and many other musical events is St Martin-in-the-Fields, over by Trafalgar Square. It's intimate and beautiful, and the church members are ever so friendly.

I've also enjoyed St-Martin-In-the-Fields for evensong. I can't speak to other evensong services, but the music there is always nice. It's been a few years since I've been, but the services weren't overly crowded.
Vote #3 for St.-Martin-in-the-Fields! So intimate - the space is gorgeous - and the musicianship is of very high caliber.
my two favourites for Evensong so far are neither in London, nor is the runner up.
Top - Peterborough Cathedral - atmosphere, history, ceiling, acoustics and choir
Second, a close second - York Minster - atmosphere, choir and acoustics, history, windows
and runner up - Kings College Chapel, Cambridge - history, architecture, choir
