What is best (fastest and/or cheapest) way to get from Edinburgh to Amsterdam?

We are traveling from Edinburgh to the Netherlands and are considering flights from Edinburgh or ferries (which probably leave from some other port). Obviously fastest would be flights if they have them direct from Edinburgh, but maybe other options would be more economical and still not waste a whole day. Any ideas?

Peter,
I'm actually making this same trip in early July. We looked at a bunch of different options but ultimately decided on flying (as time was a major factor). There weren't a lot of cheap flight options left so I'd suggest booking as soon as possible (if you decide to fly!). We did look into some ferries but they can be somewhat expensive (as much or more than the flight cost) and took quite a lot of time (as some of the other posters mentioned). No other means of transport that we found (i.e. trains) made sense since they would ultimately be more expensive and time costly (we looked at taking the train down to London and then across the channel or to London + ferry, etc).
We found flights using skyscanner,..I think we ended up doing EasyJet (just watch out for all the extra fees!).

There may be direct flights, but they can get pricey. I connected through London City Airport. My friends connected through Heathrowe. It still was easy and fast.

BTW you posted this in England, when you were going to Scotland. Two different places. : )

Thanks all for your replies. I made a booking using the suggested website for a reasonable $97 US per person non-stop from Edinburgh to Amsterdam. Other options cost a fortune and usually involved many hops.
