What interesting things would you recommend in London?

Hey guys,

I'm about to travel to London over the weekend but I would like some inspiration. I did some search on youtube to find some fun things others have done.

This seems like he had a blast ad madame toussou! but I would like to know more about the night life in London. Anyone have any videos that I can watch for an inside look?

Cheers a lot!

That Youtube is awful. Madame tourssou is about the last place I would go in London for any reason. You need inspiration to go to London? What interests you? All good guidebooks cover the must see items very well. Get some London DVDs from your local library.

Yeah Well.. not really inspiration, more like tips on what can be found in london..

I like to do research before I go places so I don't just wonder about the city having no idea where to go ;)

Madame Tussauds is a lot of fun, go for it! Travel should be more than just art museums and cathedrals:) It's also one of the city's most popular and expensive attractions, and waits to get in can be very long. You can get around that by purchasing tickets in advance via the official website, you can skip the line and get a bit of a discount:

People seem to enjoy the London Eye. I'm not crazy about it, but I must say the view at sunset is impressive. I can also wholeheartedly recommend Shakespeare's Globe, if you can still get tickets. We saw "Midsummer Night's Dream" there last week, and it's a hoot. Combination farce/musical/Shakespeare. That's one I'd see again if we were there. Their other production this summer is "The Taming of the Shrew." If it's as innovative and entertaining as "Midsummer Night's Dream", it'd be worth seeing.

Tower of London, the Globe, London Walks, St. Paul's, Churchill War Rooms, Hyde Park, Regents Park for a play, or a whole host of other things.

What can be found in London?

Gee lets see; history dating back centuries, royalty, incredible architecture old and new, great public transport, excellent theatre, some of the most iconic buildings on the planet, WW2 war rooms as they were left and from where Sir Winston Churchill directed England's war efforts ( you've heard of Churchill haven't you), Westminster Abbey ( where such famous people as Chaucer, Dickens, Charles Darwin and countless Kings and Queens like Mary Queen of Scots are buried).

Then there are Van Goughs, Turners, Cezannes in the free museums, a good music scene, wonderful parks, the river Thames, fabulous markets.

If all u what want is nightlife and club hopping you'll find it there as well.

Being a major city, nightlife can be found everywhere in London, regardless of where you are staying, so I am offering a couple of other suggestions. Many of the museums are free! The British Museum (free) is one of the world's top museums and certainly worth a visit. We usually eat at Nando's at least once (and sometimes more) whenever we visit the UK. It is a chain restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, popular throughout the UK., and with many locations in London. Their specialty is peri-peri chicken, but other entrees are available. Each location looks a little different, but all are casual and the food is basically the same. You can order your roast chicken in various degrees of spicy (or not), then choose as many sauces as you want. The sides are very good and there are lots of choices. You can order a complete meal or a la carte. Enjoy your trip!

We love going to Kew Gardens. It's a change of pace from the 'city' and is lovely anytime of year. Their shop is also one of my absolute favorites! You can find really interesting things to give as gifts (we've done Christmas shopping there several times).

We also like to take the train out to Windsor. It only takes about 25 min. and Windsor is a lovely little village/town. The castle is also one of my favorites- especially the rose garden. In summer you can take a short cruise on the Thames- you get to see the back of the castle, and some of the countryside. You catch the cruise boat near the bridge over to Eaton.

Want an unusual place? Go to Dennis Severs House. Can't describe it other than a living museum/sociology exhibit. I enjoy the odd. This wasn't odd but incredibly interesting even for my odd sensibilities.

My experience with London nightlife is that it's like most major cities. Word of mouth. Last time I was of "age" I went to Anabelle's. Last visit we spent a week in Chelsea and the Roman trend of black shear tights and leather hot pants was all the rage in November. Lots of clubs. No idea of your age/lifestyle but this Is a great place for the young set.

Go to one of the street truck fairs they are having all over London. I think there are 4 or 5 sites? Here's the website:

If you go, come back and let us (more like just me, lol) know how it is! Going to be in London in July and would like to know someone else's pov.

Thanks!

There's a lot to do in London. My favorite is the London eye. You can see a lot of the city up there. Madame Toussou is not my cup of tea. Dondon Dungeon is not scary at all.

We did Madame Tussauds on our 2nd visit to London - my sister and her daughter came from Portsmouth with us and wanted to see it - and we had two for one coupons (something to do with taking the train and getting a discount). We stood in line almost 90 min (this was a Sat in mid-late Sept). And the place was nuts when we got in. We soon lost track of my sister and niece as we fought thru the crowds. It was fun, but not sure it was worth the time spent waiting in line (on the flip side, we also did MT in NYC with nary a lineup to be had).
