Palace of Westminster

Hi all.

I have read that to visit Westminster Palace you must do so on a tour, that you can't just wonder around. However, they sell "guided in person tours" and "multi media in person tours". Can anyone tell me the difference? Has anyone been on the multi media one and explain how it works?.

Thank you in advance,

Its the choice of a guided tour with a guide telling you about the Palace of Westminster and answering any questions OR going around by yourself (at your own speed) with a hand held device. You stop at different places and press a number on the device for the information about that spot. You then move on to the next spot...

@Wasleys do you know if the guided tour accesses different/more areas than the multimedia DIY tours?

I hope someday they reopen the Elizabeth Tower tours to foreign tourists. That was one of the best London tours and you actually got to walk up all the flights of steps to see Big Ben and behind the clock face. It seems odd they closed it after 7/7 to tourists especially since the 7/7 incidents were committed by British nationals.

On the guided tour, they did tell us that one of the rooms is only available for the guided tour. My memory is pretty hazy, it was some sort of room where a committee hearing might be held, the guide focused mostly on the artwork in that room.

However this was around 2017 or so and things may have changed. Also, it looked like those on the self guided option still had to follow a laid out path for the tour, not like a museum where you can focus only on what interests you.
