My family will be in London in July this year (2 adults, 2 kids 15, and 12). I know that showing up to Westminster Abbey right at opening with a reserved entry time is best to avoid crowds. Rick's book says afternoons can be quieter as well, but every other site I've found said you'll still be waiting in a huge line in the afternoon even with a reserved time. I was hoping to take a Thames River cruise in the afternoon after we'd done the abbey for close proximity and do the London Transport Museum in the morning. Now, I'm wondering (even if it means doing some back and forth tube riding...which I don't mind) if we should do the Abbey first thing, then the Transport Museum and then trek back for the river cruise for some down time/relaxation in the afternoon. Thanks for your advice!!
Are you planning to do the Tower of London at any time during your stay? I know that is an off-the-wall question based on your post but there is a boat dock there as well. To me the Thames River transport cruises are not as scenic as, say, Paris BUT I’m also a person who does not seek out boat trips.
