Looking to book tickets for Westminster Abbey in advance for late September. Is there a legit website to use. I see prices of GBP71, but elsewhere in Steve’s travel log he mentions GBP 31. Thank you in advance.
P.s. I think I was on a fraudulent website Westminster-abbey-tickets.org (GBP 73) that looked very similar to Westminster-abbey.org (GBP 31). Just seeking confirmation from this community.
I was looking at this as well for a September trip, this is the website I had bookmarked for the Abbey
It seems you cannot book past end of May at the moment. Pricing is GBP 31 for general adult admission.
Yes, you were on a 3rd-party site that's designed to look 'official." Specifically, AVOID any ticketing site that mentions "Feel The City" anywhere on the site. It's really annoying as they're upselling tickets for attractions all over Europe. There are others that look official too so scan website text for sites selling tickets for a statement like "This website is not affiliated with, sponsored by, authorized by, or operated by Westminster Abbey or any other official managing entity" or similar. That's the giveaway that it's a 3rd party.
This is the Abbey's official website:

Here is the website, the official one, for Westminster Abbey. You're right about the other site, and that's a little scary. That website looks official on the search page, and it even has an .org domain. I'm glad you caught it before you booked anything.

Also, you mentioned tours in your title. The verger tours are only £10 (in addition to the entry fee), and if you'll scroll down on the opening page and look for the information there on the website (click on "Visit" then "Verger-guided tours", it should give you more information.
Good additional info, Mardee. :O)
I'll just add that the £31 price quoted in the travel log is for general entry: no tour.
Generally tickets go on sale two-ish months ahead, so you're a bit too early for September. Just keep checking the official website.
There are also London Walks guided tours but only on Sunday and Monday and some other specified dates. You show up and pay for the walk, but you have to pay for entrance tickets ahead https://www.walks.com/our-walks/westminster-abbey-tour/
Good additional info, Mardee. :O)
Ha ha, I think you and I posted at almost exactly the same time, Kate!
pmacdona, it's also worth looking at this page for special tours. Right now, the calendar only goes through June, but I would keep an eye on it because they have some wonderful things to see. If I would have been there when they had that college garden tour, I would have been all over that. I would love to see that.
All,
Thank you so much for the great info!
I recommend booking on the official website. Get the earliest time and be close to the front of the line. When you get inside, book a Verger tour (they are wonderful!), and look around until the tour time. This is the least crowded that the Abbey will be all day, so take advantage of it. I did this on a Monday morning and when I was looking around I had the Lady Chapel and the side chapels almost to myself. It was so much better than when I visited a few years earlier and it was so crowded people were shoulder to shoulder. Could hardly see anything.
The Verger tour was great and I highly recommend. They allow you to go into the Shrine of St. Edward the Confessor, which you can't do without the tour. (And we also got to sit in the choir while the guide was explaining some things to us!)
