Westminster Abbey tickets

I am looking on the WA website to buy tickets ahead of time. Am I correct in understanding that I buy for a specific day but not for a specific time? https://www.westminster-abbey.org

You could also attend an Evensong service for free. You can't wander around during the service, but you'll be in the sanctuary and listen to all of the glorious music.

Thanks, Tim. I always try to do that when I'm in London. This time I have my 10yo grandson with me, his first visit, and I want him to get to wander and look.

To piggyback off this question, can the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries tickets be bought ahead of time? The WA website makes it sound like they must be bought at the door after purchasing a regular admission ticket.

Ruth, If the 10 yr old will have a phone (and ear phones) you can download the Westminster Abbey audio guide ahead of time and not have to carry theirs around. I don’t know if there’s a kids version though...

Also, when you are in the front of the church before you go thru into the quire, ask one of the docents to show you where Stephen Hawking’s ashes will be interred.

My friend's kid did not like Westminster Abbey because it was a mausoleum and "too creepy", but all kids are different.
Is there any Harry Potter interest?

Hope you have fun!

Alison, he's very interested in history, so I'm hopeful he'll like WA. We've downloaded the audio guide to his travel phone and will show him how to fast forward if he wants to. He's read a stack of the "Who Was....." series books, e.g., Churchill, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, Shakespeare, Henry VIII, Alex Hamilton, so he should have some context. He's more of a Star Wars fan than Harry Potter, but likes HP enough that yes, we've got tickets for the studio tour. Flying to London tomorrow night. Eight nights there so we don't have to overload our days. Traveling with one kid at a time is really special. Then on to Iceland!
