We are planning to go to London with two 10 year olds. We found a hotel on the south side of the river close to Waterloo. Is this a good area to stay? Pros and cons Please. Thanks
I stayed near Waterloo in April ( Premier Inn Waterloo) and found the location excellent for my purposes. It was a 5-10 minute walk across the bridge to Westminster Abbey and the Churchill War Rooms. Three tube lines at Waterloo Station made getting to anywhere in London a breeze, and I used the train from Waterloo for a day trip to Portsmouth. Really enjoyed walking along the river in the evening and there are a large number of restaurants available. I always enjoy a stop at Wagamama’s and there was one just a few blocks away. Several grocery stores as well.
Perfectly fine.
You’ll be close to Jubilee Gardens where the London Eye is located as well as the extremely crowded Westminster Bridge for photo ops with Parliament in the background. Really lovely at night when the lights turn on.
Elizabeth’s Tower is in scaffolding and will be for at least another year.
It’s a pleasant walk along the Thames Path to The Globe and then across the Millennium bridge to St Paul’s.
Easiest way to see what’s close to your accommodation is to use Google Satellite and Street View options. Satellite will show you how close you are to such sites:
Parliament Square
Churchill War Rooms
Westminster Abbey
London Eye
The Imperial War Museum
Horse Guards
Trafalgar Square
Covent Garden
Street view allows you to actually see what’s in your neighborhood as far as markets, cafes, restaurants banks ( for ATM’s) , coffee, etc.
Great city. Enjoy your stay.
