West End theater questions

Can someone please give me some advice on this?

I'm thinking about seeing "Sunny Afternoon" (the Kinks musical) when I 'm visiting London in early June. I understand theatremonkey.com and the "official London theatre" websites are good places to buy tickets. Also the TKTS booth, but since the play will be closing in late June, I'm a bit concerned that it may sell out.

I did a couple of trial runs for ticket purchases, and I noticed that both web sites seem to assign the seats to the purchaser. I've done a few online ticket purchases for plays and concerts here in the U.S., and I've always gotten to choose my seats. Are things just done differently with West End plays?

Should I just wait until I get to London? Thanks!

When I don't want to miss a London show, I usually book ahead, starting with the production or theater's own web site. In this case, starting at http://sunnyafternoonthemusical.com/book-tickets/ takes you through to ATG, which does let you select your seat (and worked great for my purchases last fall).

theatremonkey.com is good for everything you want or need to know, not just for buying tickets. Take a look at the site.

If there is a show you have your heart set on seeing always get the tickets ahead of time via a site like Ticketmaster UK. Only rely on the TKTS booth if you are not choosy and and don't mind seeing something a bit random.

Hi SandraL,

I saw the musical last July at the Harold Pinter Theatre and bought my tix online from the theatre directly and chose my seats when I bought the tickets. At the time the run was set to end in October, so that tells me it is popular and maybe the end isn't the end.

We got one of the little tables at the back, I liked the idea of being able to get up and about without bugging others or sitting on the end and having others bugging me. Wasn't that comfortable, and the theatre seating looked like they were. I enjoyed the show a lot. Great music and the performers were outstanding.

This is a fantastic show.

Must see if you love the Kinks like I do. Lots of music and loud. Storyline works. Saw it in May 2015.
Nothing special to add about the ticket purchase - got the ticket online before leaving and was able to select my seat.

Mrs EB, I've had the song in my head for days now! LOL

I've been a big Kinks fan since the early '80s and was lucky to see them live back then, and a wonderful performance by Ray Davies about 8 years ago. So I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for the advice and help!
