On Rick's "London in 7 Days" tour he suggests that the evening of the visit to Windsor is a good one for a west end show. In real life, considering the trains and not wanting to rush, does this make sense for those of us NOT on an RS tour?
I think this is going to be very dependent on your tastes and preferences. My son and I combined Hampton Court and a West End Show on our recent trip and it gave us time to have an afternoon rest in between. We arrived at Hampton Court when it opened and spent about 3 hours there.
It is doable, but the question is with your personal travel preferences do you want to do it?
It’s very doable. Take the train from Paddington Station it’s a 35 minute train ride, you will change in Slough which is easy. When you arrive in Windsor as you exit the train turn to your left, walk up to High Street and there is the castle across the street.
No problem. In addition to the line from Windsor & Eton Central requiring a change in Slough to Paddington, you also have the option (which I prefer) of Windsor & Eton Riverside direct to Waterloo. Both Paddington and Waterloo then have direct Tube lines the West End stations.
If you go you should consider booking tickets in advance. When I went a few years ago there was a long line to buy tickets and the online site did not allow purchase of same day tickets.
