West End Live

Has anyone been to West End Live? We will be in London while it is happening (june 24 & 25) I was looking for any tips. What time to arrive, best place to stand, how crowded is it & is one day busier than the other.

This is the free event in Trafalgar Square where they setup a stage and various people do 'bits' from their shows. As with any event in TS, it will be packed to the point of madness... but also, will be a lot of fun. I have seen it in passing only, as i'm not a theatre person. If you get there early, you might get a good spot, but there are plenty of view points, and as a free event, people wander in and out, rather than stay all day... so at some point you are likely to get a good spot. The 'best' spot is likely to be directly in front of the stage, which would be standing only... a little further back are the steps in front of the National Gallery, which are likely to be the most premium spots as you can sit down. Both days likely to be as busy as each other, weather permitting. Don't dismiss the weather... a hot sunny day (yes they do happen here) might catch you out if you're sat in the sun all day without protection or water. Some free events I've seen in TS, they stop you taking in your own food/drink etc. which of course includes water, that may not be the case with this event. If you're in town anyway, and like shows, check it out, if it's not what you had hoped for, do something else... you are right in the centre there anyway.

Thanks Mike J, that weekend will be the end of our week in London and we hadn't planned anything special for those days. Popping in & out during the day sounds great.
