Hello fellow travelers!
I have been to Europe a few times having traveled to Austria, Germany, Rome and Amsterdam, but never England. All of these times I have been lucky enough to go with my boyfriend and we make a good pair however, he has no desire at all to go to London saying it's too expensive. I have asked some of my friends if they would like to go and they do not have much interest either which boggles my mind! Anyway,
I'm seriously considering taking a direct flight from Boston to London for a weekend trip. Get there around 7 am on Saturday and leave Monday morning. Are there any suggested itineraries or advice you can give this first time solo traveler for a two day trip? I think I will be going in the next two months and I am looking to keep the trip affordable in terms of hotels. What area of London should I stay given my time frame and safety concerns? Thanks for all your help in advance.
you're flying from Boston to London for a weekend? blimey
the South Bank, Marylebone, Bloomsbury and South Kensington are all good areas, whether you can afford them is another question as you don't give a budget. Nowhere is unsafe and no one place is convenient for all the sites. Stay within the Circle line on the Tube map.
I wouldn't say nowhere in London is unsafe, but nowhere that tourists are likely to stay in the centre is. Do be a little more cautious about AirBnB or similar - I've seen a few discussed on this forum that were in areas that I wouldn't recommend to a tourist.
If you are going to London to see historic sites then Southbank is ideal. You are right on the Thames and within walking distance of major historical sites. Train from Gatwick serves this area very well if that is an option.
If you are going for shopping or clubbing stay farther west. For such a short trip prioritize access to transportation and central location.
PM'd you. Probably went to spam. I travel solo all the time. Spent a month in the UK last November.
You might want to check out London School of Economics accomodations and see if any of those would suit you.
I stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel on the Strand when I was in London for a couple of days and was quite happy with it. The single room was tiny, but it was all that I needed. Easy access to Covent Garden and lots of theatres.
