WARNING: GWR & Cross Country - Disruption at Reading, 14/15 Oct - short notice engineering work

The main lines through Reading station will be closed 14+15 October to carry out further testing of overhead wires for electrification.

This will result in various bus substitutions to complete journeys to and from London to some popular destinations on here such as South Wales, Bath, Cotswolds, Devon, Cornwall etc, as well as on Cross Country.

Not all details have been published yet, although a revised timetable is now available on the National Rail site for 16 October.

Tickets already, even Advance ones normally tied to specific trains can be changed to 13 or 16 October, or refunded without fee.

We got stuck at Ditcot on a Sunday last month with GWR, Bath to Paddington. no notice all. The cause was the same, electrification work and they ran into problems, the scheduled work didn't finish on time. We waited for about an hour there. They had us get off the train and wait in the station then take a different train the rest of the way. Thankfully our tickets to Buckingham Palace were for 12:30 and we were on time for that. Our train did not go through Reading.

There have been no trains through Reading on Sunday mornings for some weeks now, and this will continue into November. Travel via Oxford.
